Hi, I’m Mona Chris, A book-loving, Monarch Butterfly protecting, gardening enthusiast! However, my most incredible thrill comes from teaching reading and writing to kids. With over 25 years of experience, as an Educator, I continue to help children find purpose and pleasure in doing both (reading and writing) proficiently.

I LOVE TO READ and WRITE!

Motivating Upper Elementary kids to become joyful, strategic, successful independent readers and creative writers who soar is what I have dedicated my life to; I am grateful for this journey.

Homeschool Coach

This is my story, of how my teacher journey was re-routed and the Monarch Literacy Family came to be.

But before I share my story I want to focus on you, the real MVP:
A loving, nurturing, superhero without the cape, YOU became a Home School parent because the love you have for your child is deeper than the Pacific Ocean and bigger than any apprehension you may have. Above all else, you want your child to be the best human being he or she can be and to succeed in life.

You want to raise a kind, compassionate, well-rounded child who enters the world confidently and skillfully. You want your child(ren) to make a valuable contribution to our local and global communities.

Home School Parents are the most courageous and caring teachers a child can ever have!

I help parents, with your humongous heart, to achieve your ultimate homeschool goals by teaching you the skills, organization, and strategies to create and implement a thriving and rewarding literacy program – the bedrock of your home education plan of action. I help you and your child develop strong wings and soar.

Our Shared Story

I have had to make major life decisions to do what is best for my family.

I want the best for my family and have been overwhelmed by the never ending To Do List and lack of time.

I have needed to find my tribe to help me survive and thrive.

I have looked at the calendar and wondered where the day, week, month, year, went.

I have needed to phone a friend and consult an expert to keep me moving toward my goal, and not quit.

I have had to change direction and pivot when life demanded I do something different to preserve my peace, be my best self, and live a soul satisfying life.

A New Direction

Change can be necessary but challenging. It can be especially scary to feel like you are embarking on something alone and the people you care about most don’t necessarily understand and are not fully on board. However, when you are called, compelled to do something and know with all your heart that this is necessary for the health and well-being of your family, you must move into the unknown with mustard seed faith.

I absolutely loved teaching in Upper Elementary classrooms, being a Staff Developer, A Literacy Coach for Teachers, District Literacy Curriculum Writer and Parent Partnership Advocate.

I have always been a lifelong learner and received my Masters in Education, over two decades ago. Subsequently, I pursued Professional Development with a fervor and passion. My classroom became an exemplar for the district and was often visited by teachers, principals, community leaders, politicians, and Superintendents. I became a National Board Certified Literacy Teacher and was awarded the Superintendent Above and Beyond The Call of Duty Award.

In spite of the accomplishments, the most rewarding and fulfilling experience I have ever had in my career has been motivating the most reluctant, disengaged students to become joyful strategic, independent Readers and Writers with a desire for lifelong learning experiences.

I didn’t think I would ever leave the local school system and step away from traditional and formal education. It was necessary!

Transitioning And Transforming

Like most people 2020 was a year of change for me. I could either resist it or lean into the lessons it taught me and the stirring in my soul.

When the world went into a shut down, I had family members and friends in complete panic about what to do with their children and how to help them with their education, at home. My phone rang incessantly from people who know my passion for teaching Literacy.

I knew I had to do everything I could to help parents and children succeed. Prior to this, I had helped family members over the years transition to their home-schooling journey and thus a full circle moment happened in 2020.

My mission is to help Home School Parents and those who desire to embark on this journey to have the support, tools, and resources needed to transition and succeed wherever they are and reach their destination. My mission is to help every child have an interaction with a book that is so magical they want to savor it forever! My mission is to help kids Read like Writers and Write like Readers!

The only thing more rewarding than inspiring and helping empower children to read and write is to help homeschool mothers and fathers like you (around the globe) to stick to your decision, maximize your efforts and enjoy the journey with your amazing children!
